How does Restylane/Perlane work?

The Restylane family of products includes Restylane, Restylane-L, Perlane, and Perlane-L. These products can be used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane and Restylane-L may also be used for lip enhancement in patients over 21 years.

Restylane is the smart and easy way to add volume and smoothness to your skin. Restylane is based on a hyaluronic acid gel that closely resembles the body’s own hyaluronic acid and, provides volume by supporting the skin’s structure. It is long lasting, but not permanent. Restylane grants you the freedom to correct and enhance your beauty by easily selecting and combining treatment possibilities.

Treatment benefits can be seen immediately and, can last up to 18 months. Biocompatible with the human body, Restylane is eventually broken down naturally.

After treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, or tenderness. These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14 days in lips. If you have had facial cold sores before, an injection can cause an outbreak. To avoid bruising and bleeding, you should not use the products if you have recently used drugs that thin your blood or prevent clotting. Products should not be used during pregnancy, when breast-feeding, or in patients under 18 years.

What is the difference between Restylane & Perlane?

Just like Restylane, Perlane adds volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds).

Like Restylane, Perlane is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid that is specifically formulated to add volume like your body’s own hyaluronic acid.
What makes Perlane different is the average size of the particles and the depth of injection. On average, the gel particles in Perlane are larger than those in Restylane, which makes Perlane a good choice for wrinkles that benefit from a deeper injection into the skin.

In three clinical studies of 150 patients each, on average 70% of patients maintained improvement for six months after just one Perlane treatment.
